The Town of Leland actively seeks grants and other funding opportunities to fund various projects, procure specialty equipment, and provide funding for training. Grant funding allows the Town to go beyond the limits of our operational budget and provide a solution for evolving community problems. Thank you to the agencies for recognizing the needs of our Town.
NCWRC’s Partners for Green Growth program will provide the Town with a guidance document to be used by our Planning Department to assist in the development of the Town’s first Green Network Master Plan. Following completion, the Town will update our policies accordingly and proceed with creating requirements for developments to connect open spaces, connecting existing and proposed conservation areas, neighborhoods, riparian corridors, and sensitive natural environments. In addition, we anticipate using this guiding document to plan for Trail Ready Nodes along the Green Network and creating plans for water access, blueways, and greenways.
The Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program helps communities around the country carry out projects for surface transportation infrastructure with significant local or regional impact.
The Town of Leland has a priority to attach currently unpaved roads to paved streets to strengthen the connection between residents and the community.
The Leland Police Department will use these funds to purchase new standard issued radios. As one of the essential pieces of equipment for our officers, the handheld radio is needed for officers’ communication, safety, and to provide the highest level of service to the citizens of the Town of Leland.
Fire safety grants fund critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel, enhance efficiencies, and support community resilience. The Leland Fire/Rescue Department requested funding for a mobile air compressor station for a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
N.C. Department of Commerce Rural Transformation Grant Fund will help rural communities revitalize main street and downtown districts, seed and advance initiatives that build local capacity, revitalize, and strengthen neighborhoods, foster small business recovery/sustainability, and support economic growth.
The Baldwin Drive Improvement Project includes street, sidewalk, and drainage improvements along Baldwin Drive from Lee Drive to Navassa Road. Improvements include resurfacing, installation of sidewalk, curb and gutter, and storm drain piping for the section of road, as well as grading and stormwater upgrades to improve area drainage.
The road design includes 10-foot travel lanes with curb and gutter, new stripping-including center-line stripes, and planter strip with trees. The pedestrian improvements include new 5’ sidewalks on both sides of the road, ADA compliant curb ramps at Lee Drive, and crosswalks. In effort to reduce roadway flooding concerns, there will be additional storm drain piping and additional grading to improve the stormwater system. This project addresses safety concerns for both pedestrians and motorists and will better serve the developing areas within Leland.
The Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Program will accelerate an electrified and alternative fuel transportation system that is convenient, affordable, reliable, equitable, accessible, and safe. The CFI Program will also help put the U.S. on a path to a nationwide network of at least 500,000 EV chargers by 2030 and improve networks for vehicles using hydrogen, propane, and natural gas. This grant aims to strategically deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure located on public roads or in other publicly accessible locations.
