What is a "juried market"?

A juried art market is an event where artists submit their work to a panel of judges to be considered for inclusion.

Some, but not all, Town of Leland markets are juried.

Juries for Town of Leland markets may include Town of Leland staff from various departments; Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources community members; and craft and fine art professionals from the region who are able to provide a well-rounded panel.

What is "blind judging"?

Blind judging is an evaluation process that removes identifying information about applicants to ensure an unbiased assessment. Blind judging is used to eliminate bias, conscious or unconscious, based on factors including name, gender, ethnicity, and more.

In the close-knit arts community that we have in our region, we strive to keep each step of the process as fair as possible. Applicants are asked to omit personal and business names, photos of faces, and other identifying information from appearing in their application packet.

Are there automatic bids into the markets for past vendors or others?

No. All interested vendors must apply for each market event. Past participation does not guarantee acceptance or weigh jury scoring. Additionally, PRCR program participants, instructors, and Town of Leland staff are not guaranteed acceptance and must apply for each event.

When applicable, use of the blind judging process allows jurors to evaluate and score applicants without knowledge of past market participation, program participation, or status as an instructor or staff member.

Select market events do not utilize a jurying process. Interested vendors are required to apply for these events and are subject to staff approval.

Makers Madness - a participant-only market - is limited to those artists participating in long-form programming through Leland Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources. Each interested vendor must apply and is subject to staff approval.

We were so excited these 34 incredibly talented vendors joined us for our 2024 Holiday Art Market.
