Just after 5 p.m. this evening, Leland Fire responded to a gas leak on Ocean Gate Boulevard near Murphy USA. Utilities to the affected area have been secured and shut off, and there's no threat to the public. Businesses and residents in the affected area can expect gas service disruptions throughout the evening as Piedmont Natural Gas works to remove damaged sections of pipe and complete repairs. They will notify affected customers when service is ready to be restored. You won’t be able to exit from Gateway Boulevard onto U.S. Highway 17, but you can enter Ocean Gate Plaza from U.S. Highway 17 and exit via New Pointe Boulevard. Seeing so many smiling faces at the Founders Park splash pad makes us soooo happy 😊 Now that the summer heat has officially arrived, the splash pad is the perfect place to cool off. It’s open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. through September, so there’s plenty of time to splash, play, and enjoy the sunshine. It’s free, family-friendly, and easy to activate. Just press the blue pole near the entrance to start the water features. A few quick reminders before you visit: • Adult supervision is required at all times • No lifeguard is on duty • Bring appropriate swimwear • No glass is permitted • Pets are not allowed except for service animals • Restrooms are available onsite • There are no designated changing areas

Last week, the Leland Fire Department joined personnel from across the region for fire investigation training in Belville hosted by Brunswick Community College in partnership with the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal. The course provided hands-on experience in determining fire origin and cause, preserving scenes, identifying evidence, and conducting investigations. Training like this helps to maintain proficiency and strengthens the skills that fire investigators rely on.
