This afternoon, Town Council took a few minutes during its Agenda Meeting to recognize the employees who helped make the Founders Park Grand Opening and Live in Leland series such a success. And, well ... there were a lot of them. 😅 That’s because events like these take a whole lot more than what you see on stage. Staff across multiple departments helped with planning, setup, logistics, safety, programming, communications, park prep, cleanup, and plenty of behind-the-scenes work in between. We’re grateful to everyone who pitched in and helped bring Founders Park to life for residents this summer — y'all made it happen! 👏 👏

Town Council Agenda Meeting A couple items on the agenda include: ✅ Discussion of a resolution about the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge Replacement Project ✅ Consideration of a special joint meeting with the Parks & Recreation Board to discuss the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) Plan currently in development TUESDAY, SEPT. 22 | 6 P.M. Planning Board The Board will consider proposed zoning and rezoning requests involving properties along Malmo Loop Road, Colon Mintz Road, NC Highway 87, and NC Highway 133. Join us Thursday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. for hits from some of the biggest names in British music, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, and more. 🎶 Admission is FREE, so mind the gap, grab a lawn chair or picnic blanket, and we’ll see you there! 🇬🇧🎶

Run, walk, cartwheel … whatever you gotta do, just get yourself to Founders Park Saturday night. 🏃 We’re having the time of our lives with Dirty Dancing on the big screen! 💃🎬 Join Tracie Rabalais for dance lessons at 7 p.m. before the movie starts at 7:40 p.m. Admission is FREE, and we’ll have food trucks, yard games, the splash pad, and playground to keep you busy before the movie. Grab a chair or blanket and come hang out with us! 🍿

Leland, you showed up hungry! 🌶️ Thank you to everyone who joined us at Founders Park for this year’s Battle of the Bowls. We had a great night of chili, live music, food, and a little friendly competition, all while supporting Manna Ministries. And now for the results: Leland Fire Department claimed this year’s chili bragging rights! 🏆🔥 The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office took second place, followed by Leland Police Department in third. Thanks to everyone who donated and voted, we collected 130 cans and raised $525 for Manna Ministries! Thank you to all three agencies for putting their chili skills to the test, along with everyone who donated, voted, volunteered, performed, served food, or simply came out to spend the evening with us. We’re already looking forward to next year! 👨‍🍳

A little extra information can make a big difference during an emergency. Leland Police is now offering free seatbelt covers for Town residents with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The covers help alert first responders that someone in the vehicle may need additional patience, guidance, or support. We promise they actually like each other. 😂 With Battle of the Bowls coming up Thursday, we figured we’d give Leland Fire Department and Leland Police Department a chance to get a little friendly trash talk out of their systems before the chili competition begins. Consider this the warm-up. The real battle starts at 6 p.m. Thursday at Founders Park, when Leland Fire, Leland Police, and the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, NC put their chili to the test. Michael Schott will get things started with country favorites and originals, and Fitz's Biscuits, Revival Roadside, East Coast Nuts, and Mimi & Papa’s Gourmet Popcorn and Sweet Shop will be there serving up even more to eat. We’ll also have a beer garden, yard games, the splash pad, and playground to keep everyone busy between bowls. Come hungry and ready to pick a winner. 🌶️

Spring cleaning in September? When the trip to the landfill is free, we’ll take it! Brunswick County Government's Free Cleanup Week runs Sept. 21-26, giving county residents a chance to get rid of most unwanted materials at no charge. So, if the garage, shed or that one corner of the yard has been getting a little out of hand, consider this your opportunity. Hey, Leland, remember that burn ban that's been in effect since June? We’ve finally got some good news. 🔥 The Town-wide burn ban has officially been lifted as of 8 a.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 15. The ban has been in place since June 9 due to unfavorable conditions for open burning. Those conditions have improved, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to get careless. Check for restrictions before burning, keep an eye on the weather, and never leave a debris fire unattended. Burn permits are available through authorized permitting agents or online through the NC Forest Service. Please burn responsibly.
