A couple of big park conversations are coming up, and we want to make sure you know how to be part of them. 🌳 On Wednesday, Oct. 28, we’re hosting two open houses at Town Hall from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. One will give you another opportunity to share feedback on our Parks, Recreation & Open Space (PROS) Plan. The other will focus on the future Loblolly Park, where planning and design work are continuing. Then, on Thursday, Oct. 29, Town Council and the Parks & Recreation Board will meet jointly for special meetings on both projects at Town Hall. The PROS Plan meeting begins at 6 p.m., followed by Loblolly Park at 7:30 p.m. If you’d like to weigh in on the PROS Plan, be sure to stop by the Oct. 28 open house, as public comment will not be taken during the Oct. 29 PROS Plan meeting. Leland, your rescheduled British Invasion is almost here! 🇬🇧🎶 The British Invaders take the Founders Park amphitheater stage Thursday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. as our Live in Leland series continues. Expect plenty of hits from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, and more. Admission is ✨ free ✨ so grab a lawn chair or blanket and come spend the evening with us as Founders Park becomes a bit more British. We’ll see y’all there! 🎶🇬🇧

Join us Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Town Hall for an informal town hall-style conversation with Mayor Brenda Bozeman, Mayor Pro Tem Bob Campbell, and Town staff about what's happening around Leland. We'll start with a social half-hour before the conversation and Q&A begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring your questions, your ideas, or just yourself. We'll save you a seat! 💙

Town Council is continuing to weigh in on the future of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge. At Thursday’s regular meeting, Council approved two actions related to the bridge replacement project. While recognizing the need to replace the bridge, Council is asking that all available options be carefully evaluated before the project moves forward. Council approved a resolution requesting a comprehensive Environmental Impact Statement for the bridge replacement project, as well as a letter requesting a federal review of the Wilmington Harbor Navigation Project. Together, the requests are intended to help identify potential alternatives and better understand the broader impacts of the project. Town Council will continue advocating for Leland residents and making sure their interests are represented as decisions about the bridge move forward. 🔗 Read more, including the resolution and letter in the link below.

A little heavy lifting was on the training schedule Thursday for A Shift at Station 53. 💪 Our firefighters practiced safely freeing someone trapped beneath a large, heavy object. This time, it was a dumpster, but the skills apply to a variety of rescue situations. The crew used specialized struts, airbags, wood cribbing, and other equipment to practice lifting and stabilizing the dumpster while providing patient care. Their patient? Phil, the training dummy, who probably would’ve preferred a less eventful Thursday. 😂

🚔 Hey, Leland! Consider this a friendly reminder that you’ve got an opportunity to come hang out with the folks behind the badges. National Night Out is coming up Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Founders Park! Come check out the police cars and other emergency vehicles, grab some food, play a few games, listen to a live DJ from Z107.5, and meet members of the Leland Police Department, local first responders, and some of our other community partners. The splash pad and playground will also be open for the kids, so bring the family and make an evening of it. It’s free, and a pretty good excuse to spend the evening at Founders Park! We’re legally required to say this at least once: It’s fall, y’all! 🍂 Okay, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk our upcoming Fall Festival! We’re taking over Founders Park on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with trick-or-treating along the pumpkin trail, pumpkin painting, face painting, yard games, and more. Admission is free, costumes are encouraged, and all ages are welcome 🎃 Go ahead and circle Oct. 24 on the calendar and we'll see y'all at Founders Park!

Bingo! 🍫 Join us Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Leland Cultural Arts Center for all-ages Candy Bar Bingo, where winning means going home with chocolate bars, fruity candy, and some serious bragging rights. Registration includes three bingo cards, with extra cards available at the front desk for three for $1. Kids under 5 get one free card per game. 📲 Register at the link below!

Walk this way ... soonish! 👟 We’re adding about 300 feet of sidewalk behind the parallel parking spaces along Town Hall Drive at Founders Park and tying it into the existing multi-use path. The new section will also give food trucks the option to park along the road with their serving windows facing into the park, giving us a little more flexibility for events without closing Town Hall Drive. A little more sidewalk with an added event-day benefit. We’ll take it! 😎

This afternoon, Town Council took a few minutes during its Agenda Meeting to recognize the employees who helped make the Founders Park Grand Opening and Live in Leland series such a success. And, well ... there were a lot of them. 😅 That’s because events like these take a whole lot more than what you see on stage. Staff across multiple departments helped with planning, setup, logistics, safety, programming, communications, park prep, cleanup, and plenty of behind-the-scenes work in between. We’re grateful to everyone who pitched in and helped bring Founders Park to life for residents this summer — y'all made it happen! 👏 👏
