This is your (and our) official excuse to talk about parks! 🌳 The Town is updating its Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan, which will help guide future decisions about parks, trails, open space, recreation programs, and other amenities. Residents who live within Town limits are encouraged to take the community survey by Sept. 14. Responses are anonymous, and your feedback will help shape long-term goals and priorities for future park investments as funding becomes available. Got thoughts about future transportation projects in the Leland region? The NCDOT would love to hear them! Throughout July, residents can submit comments on the transportation projects they’d like to see prioritized in their area in the NCDOT's 2028-2037 STIP. That could mean roads, intersections, sidewalks, bike and pedestrian connections, public transportation, or other projects that affect how people get around. Public input at this stage helps transportation leaders understand what matters most before future funding decisions are made. However the holiday looks for you and your family, we hope it’s safe, enjoyable, and spent with the people who matter most. Happy Fourth of July!

While everyone's getting ready for the Fourth of July, here's one thing we don't want you to forget. 🇺🇸 The Town-wide burn ban is still in effect. That means outdoor burning remains prohibited within 100 feet of an occupied structure in Town limits. With hot, dry conditions continuing, even a small fire can spread quickly. Thanks for doing your part to help keep Leland safe. We'll share an update as soon as the burn ban is lifted.

🗓️ T-minus one month until the Founders Park Grand Opening! 🥳 Clear your calendar and make sure to join us Friday, July 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. as we officially celebrate the park’s new amphitheater, splash pad, playground, and other new additions with a ribbon cutting, live music from The Embers featuring Craig Woolard, family activities, food trucks, and more. It’s going to be a fun evening, and we hope you’ll join us. See y’all there! 💙

Illegal fireworks? Just...no. 🙅 We know they're fun to watch, but fireworks that leave the ground, spin around, or explode are illegal in North Carolina for personal use. Throw in the current burn ban across Leland and all of Brunswick County, and it's an even easier "no." Leave the fireworks to the professionals this Fourth of July and help keep our first responders a little less busy during the holiday weekend.

The forecast for Friday and beyond? Hot. Really hot. 🥵 As temperatures and humidity climb, so does the risk of heat-related illness. If you'll be spending a lot of time outdoors during the Fourth of July weekend, please make sure to: • Drink plenty of water. • Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning. • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. • Save strenuous activities for the early morning or evening if you can. • Check on older relatives, neighbors, and others who may be more vulnerable to the heat. • Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
