The U-5534 D Old Fayetteville Road Multi-Use Path and Resurfacing project was named one of 12 finalists for the 2022 NCDOT Mobi Awards. The intent of NCDOT’s Mobi Awards is to recognize completed multimodal projects throughout North Carolina that contribute to creating safe, connected, and livable communities. This year’s winner and honorable mentions will be recognized on May 4.
The U-5534 D Old Fayetteville Road Multi-Use Path and Resurfacing project has been nominated for the 2022 NCDOT Mobi Awards. The intent of NCDOT’s Mobi Awards is to recognize completed multimodal projects throughout North Carolina that contribute to creating safe, connected, and livable communities. Judges will select finalists for five categories that are rural, small urban, urban, large urban, and innovation. A sixth category, most voted project, will be determined by votes from the public. Individuals are eligible to vote up to three times daily for their favorite project(s). Voting is open online through Feb. 25.
Finalists in each of the six categories will be notified in March and winners announced on May 4.
Construction is complete on the Old Fayetteville Road Improvements and Multi-Use Path. Town staff is working with NCDOT to close out the project.
Town staff and NCDOT conducted the final walk-through of the project with the engineer and contractor. Final punch list items are being worked on and expected to be completed in the coming weeks. Town staff will continue to monitor the area and work with NCDOT to close out the project.

The Town’s construction engineer has completed the initial walk-through of the project. The next steps are for the contractor to complete punch list items and clean up the project site. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 18 at 12 p.m.
Striping on Old Fayetteville Road is complete. The contractor will be putting final touches on the project to include installing new street signs and ADA mats, putting down seed and straw, and cleaning up the project site.
Thermoplastic striping will be installed on Old Fayetteville Road on Aug. 11 and 12. During this time, expect delays. Work will require one lane to be closed with flagging for the duration and will move down the road while the paint truck is rolling through.
Paving on Old Fayetteville Road and for the multi-use path is now complete. The next steps are for the contractor to install thermoplastic striping, back fill the shoulders, and install concrete curb ramps and new mailboxes in the weeks to come. Work will require one lane to be closed with flagging for the duration.
Paving operations along Old Fayetteville Road will continue July 23-30. During this time, the contractor will have an extended lane closure on Old Fayetteville Road from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. to pave the multi-use path and put down the final asphalt for the road. Work will require one lane to be closed with flagging for the duration. Residents will still be able to access their homes/property during paving operations.
