The Town of Leland’s Park, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department is excited to welcome the community to its annual Open House. The event will be held on Sat., Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Leland Cultural Arts Center, located at 1212 Magnolia Village Way.
Open House provides a chance for community members to learn about all the programs and events the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department has to offer. Attendees will be able to meet instructors, participate in demonstrations, watch students from performing arts classes, and view instructors’ artwork. There will also be crafts and story time throughout the day.
The department offers a wide variety of programs for people of all ages. Some of the options people will learn about at Open House include the following: pottery (wheel, youth, handbuilding, sculpting), painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor), basket weaving, crochet, knitting, drawing, writing, Teen Scene Journalism Club, belly dance, ballroom/swing dance, barre, Zumba, youth dance, adult dance (ballet/clogging), tai chi, and private lessons in flute, violin, piano, and guitar.
“Our goal with Open House is to have the community meet our staff and contract instructors to get them excited about everything happening in our area,” Program Coordinator Kirsti Armstrong said. “This really is a great time for anyone to explore what we have to offer! Having our instructors on site to field questions and explain their classes provides a great opportunity for anyone interested in taking one of our programs.”
The Town’s Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department offers more than 500 programs, serving more than 1,800 participants every year. The department averages about 60 events, concerts, and markets per year.
