Leland’s comprehensive plan for land use over the next 25 years will soon be finalized, with one more opportunity for residents to weigh in. The final community workshop for Leland 2045 will be held in person at Leland Town Hall, located at 102 Town Hall Drive, from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 29.
The workshop will be drop-in style. Attendees can visit anytime between 6 and 7 p.m. to view displays highlighting the draft themes, goals, vision statement, and future land use framework. Leland and Design Workshop staff will be available to answer questions and accept feedback and comments.
Over the past several months, the Town has been collecting feedback from residents to help guide its long-term growth plan and ensure future growth is managed responsibly, prioritizing residents’ needs. Public input has been a crucial component of this plan and shaped the development of a vision and themes for Leland 2045.
The vision statement created for Leland 2045 is as follows: “Leland is prosperous, inclusive, and resilient. It is a healthy, safe, equitable and accessible community built upon our strong values for the natural environment; inclusivity; walking and biking; social, economic, and physical connectivity; the quality of our neighborhoods; access to services, facilities, and places to gather; and the unique image and sense of place we have nurtured together as a community.”
Themes for the plan include highly valued and protected natural and cultural resources; livable, diverse, and connected neighborhoods that accommodate growth; a resilient and stable economy; an inclusive, supported, healthy, safe, and educated community; infrastructure that supports community life; and an active participant in a cooperative region.
The final draft of the Leland 2045 plan will be presented to Town Council in November. Additional information regarding the process, public input, and ways to submit feedback online can be found on the Leland 2045 website.
