The Town of Leland is looking for residents who are community-minded to get involved with their local government by serving on a Board or Committee. Serving as a Board or Committee member gives you the opportunity to get more involved with issues affecting the community and make a difference in your Town.
Currently, there are vacancies on the Economic Development Committee, Board of Adjustment, Parks and Recreation Board, and Tourism Development Authority. The deadline for applications is Friday, May 26 at 5 p.m. Information about each advisory group and how to apply is below.
Economic Development Committee
The Economic Development Committee was created to establish and oversee activities of the Town’s economic development program and assist the Town Council in implementing economic development initiatives in Leland. The committee consists of seven members and meets the second Thursday of each month. Committee members serve two-year terms.

Board of Adjustment
The Board of Adjustment holds quasi-judicial public hearings to consider requests for variances from land use regulations where special conditions would create unnecessary hardships. The Board of Adjustment also hears appeals of determinations made by staff in interpreting and enforcing land use regulations. It consists of five members and two alternates and meets on an as-needed basis. Board members serve three-year terms.

Parks and Recreation Board
The purpose of the Parks and Recreation Board is to determine when park improvements are necessary, to review and recommend to Town Council a comprehensive parks and recreation plan for the Town, to commission recreation and parks studies, and to support and coordinate with staff in implementing any parks and recreation directives or plans approved by Town Council. The Board consists of seven members and meets the last Wednesday of the month on a bi-monthly basis. Board members serve three-year terms.

Tourism Development Authority
The Leland Tourism Development Authority (TDA) is a public authority under the Local Government Budget and Fiscal Control Act and is governed by the particulars of said Act. The purpose of the TDA is to promote travel and tourism in the Town of Leland. The TDA has five members and meets on a quarterly basis. TDA members serve two-year terms.

Town Council will review eligible applications at the June Council Meeting and vote to determine the new Board and Committee members. New members will begin their terms on July 1.
