Leland Adopts Green Network Plan to Foster Sustainable Growth and Conservation

The Town of Leland has adopted the Green Network Master Plan Framework Guide, a comprehensive initiative to promote sustainable growth and environmental conservation.

The Green Network Plan aims to preserve and enhance the Town's natural assets while fostering a connected and livable community. This initiative represents a significant step forward in Leland's long-term vision, outlined in Leland 2045

The framework emphasizes the conservation of natural assets by identifying and protecting priority terrestrial and aquatic wildlife habitats within the Leland 2045 planning area. It also outlines strategies to preserve core habitats and establish functional corridors connecting them to ensure ecological health and biodiversity.

The Town is currently evaluating how to incorporate the guide's recommendations to facilitate proactive, responsible, and sustainable planning. These efforts aim to enhance connectivity to environmental resources and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors while supporting environmentally responsible development that creates a livable and accessible community.

This initiative reflects the Town’s commitment to preserving its natural resources, which are vital to the community's lifestyle, economy, well-being, and resilience. This plan emerged from a collaborative effort with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission through their Partners for Green Growth grant program, awarded to the Town in 2023.
