Town of Leland Launches Safe Streets and Roads for All Action Plan with Public Engagement Opportunities

Safe Streets and Roads for All Action Plan

The Town of Leland is excited to announce the creation of the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, a pivotal step towards achieving a future where everyone can walk, bike, roll, and drive safely within the community. This initiative is made possible through the generous support of the United States Department of Transportation’s SS4A Grant Program.

The SS4A Plan aims to identify existing transportation and roadway conditions, analyze historical trends, and prioritize projects that will enhance the safety of Leland’s transportation network. By recommending a comprehensive set of projects, strategies, policies, guidelines, and standards, the SS4A Plan will serve as a guiding document to improve safety for all road users.

The project team will analyze crash locations and severity, identify contributing factors, and categorize crash types involving motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists. This data, combined with community feedback, is crucial for guiding project recommendations in the SS4A Plan.

Residents are invited to share their perspectives on transportation safety and identify areas they consider unsafe for the traveling public. There are several ways to participate:

  • Public Input Map: Share your comments on the interactive public input map.
  • Online Survey: Complete the online survey.
  • Open House Workshop: Join the Town for an open house style workshop on July 15 at Town Hall, located at 102 Town Hall Drive. Stop by anytime between 3 and 7 p.m. to provide your input and learn more about the SS4A Plan.

Hard copy surveys are available at Town Hall, the Leland Library, the Brunswick Center at Leland, and the Leland Cultural Arts Center.

The public input map and surveys will be open through the end of July. For more information and to stay updated on the development of the SS4A Plan, please visit the project website.
