Town of Leland to Host Screening of “Taking Care” to Support Caregivers

The Town of Leland invites the community to a free screening of the documentary "Taking Care”, produced by Seth Rogen, on April 23 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Leland Cultural Arts Center, located at 1212 Magnolia Village Way. The documentary follows Seth and Lauren Rogen as they navigate her mother’s advancing Alzheimer’s disease, using humor, heart, and commitment.

This event, hosted in partnership with the Caregiver Academy, intends to provide caregivers with valuable resources and support, reinforcing the Town’s commitment to an inclusive and age-friendly community.

Attendees will have the opportunity to watch the documentary while enjoying complimentary popcorn and refreshments. The event will also provide a space for caregivers to connect with others who share similar experiences and challenges.

Following the screening, representatives from local organizations, including Brunswick Senior Resources, American Association of Retired Persons North Carolina (AARP NC), The Alzheimer’s Association Eastern North Carolina, Life Care Memory Partners, and the Cape Fear Area Agency on Aging, will be available to share valuable resources and offer support for caregivers and older adults. The Town and AARP NC will also gather feedback from participants to help shape current and future initiatives outlined in Leland’s Age-Friendly Strategic Plan

The plan, developed in partnership with AARP NC, focuses on key areas such as housing, transportation, social participation, and access to essential services. By fostering social connections, improving access to resources, and promoting lifelong learning, the Town aims to enhance the quality of life for all residents.
