The Town of Leland has been awarded $25,000 from the Duke Energy Foundation to strengthen its natural disaster preparedness through critical upgrades to its land mobile radio system. This funding will ensure more robust and reliable communication during emergencies, a vital component of effective disaster response.
Reliable radio communication is crucial for coordinating emergency responses, deploying resources efficiently, and ensuring public safety. During natural disasters, traditional communication networks often fail, leaving communities vulnerable. The planned upgrade, featuring an SLR 8000 Base Radio Package, will provide uninterrupted communication among secondary first responders. This will allow for improved coordination among emergency teams, faster response times through efficient information sharing, enhanced public safety through consistent and clear communication, and increased resilience with a robust communication framework that remains operational when traditional networks fail.
“This enhancement will strengthen our resilience, enabling us to save lives, protect property, and provide timely information to the public,” Emergency Management Chief John Grimes said. “We’re grateful for the Duke Energy Foundation’s support in helping us build a safer, more prepared community.”
