Town of Leland Adopts Safe Streets and Roads for All Safety Action Plan

SS4A Open House

The Town of Leland has adopted the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, reinforcing its commitment to building a safer community for everyone. The plan envisions a future where residents and visitors can walk, bike, roll, and drive throughout Leland without the risk of transportation-related fatalities or serious injuries.

Developed with funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s SS4A Grant Program, the plan provides a data-driven framework to identify safety challenges and guide investments in transportation infrastructure. It emphasizes low-cost, high-impact solutions and equitable improvements that benefit all users.

The plan uses data from the North Carolina Department of Transportation crash database, existing transportation plans, and robust community feedback gathered through a focus group, open house, online survey, and interactive input map. Key priorities identified include creating safer intersections, reducing vehicle speeds, and enhancing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.

“This plan provides the Town with meaningful projects and recommendations,” said Mayor Brenda Bozeman. “It will serve as an important tool as we take significant steps to enhance roadway safety and create a more connected community.”

The Town will use the SS4A Safety Action Plan as a roadmap to guide future development, prioritize critical projects, and pursue grant funding to ensure roadway safety remains a top priority.
