On Friday evening, December 9, 2016, one of Leland's Police Officers, Jacob Schwenk was involved in an incident in which he was shot multiple times resulting in multiple injuries to his lower extremities. He was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery. The surgery was successful and he is in stable condition. However, he has a long recovery ahead of him. We ask for everyone's prayers of support for his continued recovery now and for the months to come.
The incident is being investigated by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. As such, no further details regarding the incident will be made available until that investigation has concluded. We ask for privacy for Officer Schwenk and his family during this time also.
