The Town of Leland is participating in the Clean Water Education Partnership’s (CWEP) Regional Creek Week March 12-19. Creek Week includes several events to raise awareness about the importance of clean and healthy waterways.
Residents can participate in two events to celebrate Creek Week: the virtual Stormwater Run Off 5K and a weeklong BioThon. Any time during the week of March 12-19, you can participate in the virtual Stormwater Run Off 5K. You are encouraged to walk/run a 5K along a waterway, using the Strava app to track your path. This event is free but you are asked to register here, through which you will also receive a bib.
During Creek Week, you can also participate in the weeklong BioThon. This project focuses on how water connects us all through exploring, documenting, and identifying native aquatic species of early spring. Submissions will be tracked on the iNaturalist app. Join the project here.
Town of Leland staff will be participating in a stream cleanup in the area of the future Sturgeon Creek Park as part of Creek Week. Information to help educate the public will also be distributed throughout the week on the Town’s communications platforms.
More information about Creek Week can be found on CWEP’s Regional Creek Week Events webpage.
