The Town of Leland has been awarded $80,000 in federal funding through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program. This funding will support the Town’s first Comprehensive Safety Action Plan.
The Comprehensive Safety Action Plan will be the first step in implementing policies that will result in safer roadways for all Leland residents. This plan is particularly important given Leland’s rapid growth. Population expansion can cause traffic congestion, increase vehicular accidents, and necessitates the development of a comprehensive safety action plan to increase safety on our roadways.
The Town will seek the services of a consultant with local understanding and presence to develop the plan. By guiding actions, programs, projects, and policies, the action plan will advance the Town’s goal of eliminating roadway deaths and serious injuries on Town streets. Following completion, the Town will update policies accordingly and proceed with the action plan's planning, design, and development activities to ensure the Town’s goal is met.
The goal is to select a consultant and complete the action plan by June 2024.
The SS4A grant program supports the goal of zero deaths and serious injuries on our nation’s roadways. In all, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded $800 million in grants for 510 communities through the first round of the SS4A grant program.
