The Town of Leland has implemented CodeRED, a high-speed emergency mass notification service provided by OnSolve. This system will serve as the backbone of Leland’s emergency planning and communications outreach to both residents and staff.
The CodeRED system sends telephone calls, text messages, emails, and posts to social media channels to inform residents to better protect life and property. CodeRED has a record of being reliable and accurate, and has widespread adoption rates across the U.S.
Public safety officials nationwide have credited CodeRED notifications for successfully locating missing children, apprehending wanted criminals, and issuing timely evacuations. The Town anticipates using the system to notify residents of incidents like fires, floods, drinking water emergencies, and missing persons, among other events.
“CodeRED’s robust notification system will provide Town staff with a reliable, easy-to-use interface to quickly deliver critical information to our residents during emergencies,” said Emergency Management Director John Grimes. “We are eager to use this innovative technology to enhance our emergency preparedness plans.”
OnSolve has provided the Town an initial database of residential and business telephone numbers; however, all Leland residents are encouraged to sign up via the Town of Leland website or by texting ALERTLELAND to 99411. Users will enroll with their contact information including cell phone numbers and email addresses. No one should automatically assume they are in the emergency contact database.
