Learn about Fair Housing at Upcoming Workshop

Fair Housing Workshop

The Town of Leland invites residents to attend the Fair Housing Workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Town Hall, located at 102 Town Hall Drive.

Insight Planning & Development will lead the Fair Housing Workshop, offering valuable information to residents on first-time homebuying, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) housing repair assistance program, and foreclosure prevention. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.

Fair housing is a priority for the Town, ensuring that all residents have equal access to housing without fear of discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or familial status. Under the Fair Housing Act, landlords are required to meet several important standards, including maintaining consistent application processes, providing accommodations for individuals with disabilities, and ensuring that multi-family dwellings meet required accessibility standards.

This workshop is supported by the CDBG program. In 2022, Leland received a $442,000 grant from this program through the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Division, which funds initiatives aimed at providing rehabilitation or replacement housing assistance for lower-income homeowners.

Any resident experiencing discrimination in housing because of race, color, sex, religion, disability, familial status, or national origin should contact the Community Development Planner at (910) 332-5011.
