The Town of Leland actively seeks grants and other funding opportunities to fund various projects, procure specialty equipment, and provide funding for training. Grant funding allows the Town to go beyond the limits of our operational budget and provide a solution for evolving community problems. The Town of Leland has requested funding to construct an at-grade pedestrian crossing on US Highway 17 at the intersection of Ploof Road and Olde Waterford Way, in addition to approximately 300' of sidewalk on the northeast side of Olde Waterford Way. The pedestrian crossing and associated sidewalk would create the only pedestrian crossing across the multi-lane highway and connect pedestrian facilities on both sides of the highway.
This project was included in WMPO's 2040 and 2045 Long Range Transportation Plans, as well as the Town's 2016 Pedestrian Plan.
North Carolina Arts Councils' Grassroots Arts Program provides funding for arts programming to all one-hundred counties across North Carolina ensuring opportunities for citizens to experience the arts in their own communities. The Town of Leland's Art Around Town series features community events for all ages featuring artist demonstrations, lessons, and hands-on community art activities. These events are intended to reach community members that may not has access to or be familiar with the Leland Cultural Arts Center facility and to create one-of-a-kind art projects, free of charge, from an array of mediums.
Brunswick Arts Council's American Rescue Plan Act funding provides resources to non-profits to fund artists and carry the arts in every corner of Brunswick County. Leland's Cultural Arts Center (LCAC) would like to create an Artist in Residence program. This program will provide artist(s) with studio space and the opportunity to teach in their area of focus. They will also have the opportunity to exhibit in the LCAC's gallery space, participate in community events, and lead community engagement with arts activities.
According to N.C. Commerce, CDBG funds are awarded to enhance the vitality of communities by providing adequate housing, suitable living environments, infrastructure development, and expanding economic opportunities.
The Town has applied for rehabilitation and/or replacement of substandard housing units and improvements to areas with aging, undersized water/sewer lines and/or substandard streets/poor drainage. The Town will strengthen and revitalize its community, and invest in healthy, safe, and walkable neighborhoods by targeting federal funding into housing improvements to ensure safe, sanitary living situations for residents.

FOCUS Broadband Connect Grants were established to provide grant funds which will aid in covering costs associated with the utilization of FOCUS Broadband services to support economic development and community initiatives which require connectivity. This grant program is a key element of the FOCUS Broadband's vision to enhance access to and increase the use of technology in our community.
In effort to increase broadband equity, the Town has requested funding towards technology associated with the Founders Park Improvements Project.
The USDOT's Safe Streets and Roads for All program will enable the Town to develop its first Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, which will be the first step in implementing policies that will result in safer roadways for all Leland residents. The Town will seek the services of a consultant with local understanding and presence to develop the Action Plan. By guiding actions, programs, projects, and policies, the Action Plan will advance the Town’s goals of eliminating roadway fatalities and serious injuries on Town streets.
