Town of Leland Awarded $344,000 Streamflow Rehabilitation Assistance Program Grant

Jackey's Creek

The Town of Leland is excited to announce it has been awarded $344,000 from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture’s Streamflow Rehabilitation Assistance Program (StRAP). This is the second time the Town has received StRAP funding to perform stream cleanups.

This grant will be used to clear vegetative debris from approximately 8,600 linear feet of Jackeys Creek between Highway 17 and Lanvale Road to reduce flood risk and improve stream flow. The Town plans to advertise for bids in January 2025, with an expected project completion date of November 2025.

StRAP awards funding to projects that enhance North Carolina’s drainage infrastructure, restore streams, and reduce risks to life and property. During the 2024 grant cycle, the Soil & Water Conservation Commission approved more than $24 million in funding for 98 applicants.

In 2022, the Town was awarded more than $258,000 in StRAP funding to remove vegetative debris in areas of Jackeys Creek, Mill Creek, and Sturgeon Creek.
