Mayor Brenda Bozeman announced J.B. and Norma Sholar as the 2024 Citizens of the Year during the Dec. 19 Town Council Meeting. For more than five decades, the Sholars have been pillars of Leland, contributing their time, talent, and unwavering dedication to countless causes.
Their deep support for the Town is shown in their service during its early days of incorporation, from volunteering for the very first Founders Day events to cooking meals for local ball games and even assisting with the installation of street signs.
The Sholars also dedicated 35 years to the Brunswick County School District, serving as substitute teachers, bus drivers, and parent volunteers. Specifically, they made a significant impact at North Brunswick High School, where they helped construct a brick patio that stands as a symbol of their enduring legacy.
As active members of Elah Baptist Church, the Sholars have served in various roles, including director, teacher, and deacon, demonstrating their commitment to the community.
